To meet domestic demand and to make available
quality products at competitive prices, STCL
procures commodities from source markets and
supplies to wholesale and retail traders.
STCL also participates in tenders floated by
central and state agencies and is also actively
involved in domestic trade of agri products
procured from Food Corporation of India (FCI)
and State Civil Supplies Corporation through
strategic joint ventures with several trade
associates.
The domestic sales of the Company aggregated
to Rs.122.20 Crores during the year 2006-2007.
The major commodities traded domestically are
Cardamom valued Rs.32.96 Crores, Black Matpe
valued Rs.11.97 Crores, Masoor Dhall valued at
Rs.14.85 Crores, Greengram valued Rs.5.45
Crores, Jaggery valued Rs.2.68 Crores, Bengal
Gram valued Rs.2.05 Crores, Green mug Beans
valued Rs.1.39 Crores, Maize valued Rs.1.01
Crores and other commodities valued at Rs.14.54
Crores.
STCL continuously supplies agricultural
inputs such as Fertilizers, Pesticides and
Sprayers to farmers and cultivators at
competitive prices, which include sales /
distribution of fertilizers to tobacco growers
under the scheme sponsored by Tobacco Board,
Government of India.
During the year 2006-2007, the Company sold
Fertilizers and Pesticides valued at Rs 35.30
Crores as compared to Rs. 25.69 Crores, sold
during the previous year against stiff
competition from other public Sector/Cooperative
bodies / Traders and the services rendered by
the Company has been well appreciated by Tobacco
Board, Government of India. In addition, the
Company also has sold fertilizers through the
retail outlets of its Branches in all the major
plantation areas viz., Districts of Idukki in
Kerala, Kodagu and Hassan districts in
Karnataka.
STCL also procures spice seedlings from
tribal farmers in the state of Orissa and
supplies the same to growers in Karnataka
directly as well as under various schemes
sponsored by the Department of Horticulture.
With this, STCL helps farmers in Orissa get
reasonable prices for their produce and at the
same time ensures that farmers in Karnataka
receive quality seedlings. |
