Description:
Cumin is the dried seed of an herb. Cumin
is grown from seed. A hot climate is preferred,
but it can be grown in cooler regions if
started glass in spring. A sandy soil is
the best. It is mainly grown in Gujarat
and Rajasthan. India holds a major position
in the world production of Cumin. Rajasthan
alone contributes about 70% of the total
Indian production followed by Gujarat with
30%. The exported quantity in 2006-2007
was 26,000 MTs.

Uses:
Cumin is used mainly where highly spiced
foods are preferred. It is an ingredient
of most curry powders and many savory mixtures,
and is used in stews, grills - especially
lamb - and chicken dishes. Cumin is stomachic,
diuretic, carminative, stimulant, astringent,
emmengogic and antispasmodic. It is valuable
in dyspepsia diarrhea and hoarseness and
may relive flatulence and colic.
